The Elfrida Community Area supports the future of Hamilton

About Elfrida
The Elfrida Community Area is intended as a sustainable, mixed-use complete community, designed to address the City of Hamilton’s housing needs. This proposed development aims to provide a variety of housing options and business services to support Hamilton’s growing population.
Collaboration with the City of Hamilton
For over 20 years, the Elfrida Community has been identified by the City of Hamilton as the preferred new community area and is the next logical expansion area to accommodate future growth and address the significant housing needs. The City has invested significantly in studies and infrastructure projects to support development of the Elfrida Community. The vision for Elfrida aligns with Hamilton’s long-term planning goals – creating an inclusive, sustainable and connected community that supports population growth, enhances economic opportunity, and respects the environment and Indigenous communities.

Elfrida Community Area Benefits

This thoughtful approach not only enhances mobility, but also contributes to a cleaner, greener future for Hamilton.
Engagement With Indigenous Communities
Natural Heritage Protection
The Elfrida Community vision will aim to protect and enhance the area’s natural heritage system, preserving important ecological features while integrating green spaces that promote biodiversity, environmental resilience, and community well-being.
Resources
Elfrida Community Builders have submitted a complete application to include the Elfrida Community Area within Hamilton’s Urban Boundary. This milestone reflects over 20 years of planning, investment, and support from City Staff and Council. The application is supported by a range of technical studies confirming the area’s suitability for future growth. Before any development occurs, a detailed Secondary Plan process, including updated studies and meaningful public consultation, will guide the community’s evolution.
